MY HISTORYAfter graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2005 with my degree in History and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science, I began my educational career in the Lucia Mar Unified School District. Since then I have earned a Masters of Science in Educational Technology from Cal State Fullerton and obtained my CTE credential in Marking, Sales, and Services. Over the past 20 years I have taught World and US History, Sociology, Psychology, Entrepreneurship, Research and Communications as well as designed and implemented numerous professional development experiences for teachers and administrators across the nation in topics related to Project Based Learning (PBL). I am also a member of the founding staff of Central Coast New Tech High School, where we believe that everything we do should empower and engage people to be resilient, adaptive, innovative and self-directed.

MY INFLUENCESThe knowledgeable and motivating professors at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and Cal State Fullerton have been pivotal in my development as an educator. In addition to my formal learning, the training I have received from the New Tech Network, the Buck Institute, High Tech High and CraftEd Curriculum has allowed me to develop the skills, knowledge, and attributes necessary for success. I realize the huge opportunity I have every day to help make my students lives more interesting, exciting, and enjoyable. Other thinkers that inspire me in my work include: Sir Ken Robinson, Ron Berger, Simon Sinek, Brene Brown, Bell Hooks, Paulo Freire, Dan Pink, Angela Duckworth, and Carol Dweck. I love encouraging my students to think positively and most of all I love inspiring my students to live a life of inquiry and perseverance. Commitment to lifelong growth and reflection is the responsibility of all facilitators of learning.

MY DREAMSI believe education is the core of progress and happiness in our world, and I am passionate about helping create meaningful, real world scenarios that challenge myself and my students to practice using the 21st century skills we need to thrive in today’s world. I am committed to creating a safe and comfortable environment for students to try new things and not be afraid to fail. Having a growth mindset and practicing effective and respectful communication is something I expect from all of my students. I also feel today’s learners need to collaborate well, demonstrate integrity, and think laterally. Quality collaboration involves trust, respect and responsibility among each of its team members. My passion has always been to provide fair, exciting, and safe experiences for every single student whose life I would touch. I am excited to learn with you!
